site. As the plane touched down and passangers de-boarded, I was one of
the last to get off the flight. As I walked down the aisle, a female
pilot came out of the cockpit. DID I GRIN!!! Of course I did!! What a
relief to see a female pilot!! What a lovely feeling to know women are
working everywhere. The only thing that made me very uncomfortable was
that there was not a single comment / message from the pilot (as it is
usually done) during the flight. No welcome, no thank you for flying
with us etc. So I asked her....went up to her and congratulated her for
a lovely smooth landing (the best I had ever been in ..trust me!! didnt
even feel the landing!) and then said 'is it not a policy of your
airline to interact via the speakers to us''...... she said..... ''it
is. but for women pilots, we are asked sometimes to not reveal that we
are girls/women, as our voice will give it away. to which I said 'OH!
Come on!!" as if a man pilot is safer than a woman pilot...and she
grinned and said....''thats what India feels...''
My question to us as passengers -- are we so biased??? The sound of a
female voice would shake up the passengers - making them feel, its
unsafe...a woman is the pilot!!?? This is utter nonsense and I urge you
as passangers, next time you see a woman pilot, please say it out loud
''we need more of you''!!
And next time there is silence in the flight...we all know who is
flying that aircraft!!! Dont we now!!! And we should go up to the
cockpit and say - HEY LADY!! Speak to us!!! :))))
